Piramal Pharma Limited (NSE: PPLPHARMA, BSE: 543635) has successfully acquired an additional 40.67% stake in Yapan Bio Private Limited for a total consideration of ₹76 crore INR, equivalent to approximately $7.95 million USD. This transaction, finalized on August 18, 2026, elevates Yapan Bio from an associate company to a subsidiary of Piramal Pharma, resulting in the latter holding a 74% equity stake in the former.

Yapan Bio, headquartered in Hyderabad, specializes in contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services, particularly in the areas of vaccines and biologics. Since establishing its relationship with Yapan Bio in 2021, Piramal Pharma has aimed to enhance its capabilities in biologics development and manufacturing. The acquisition is a strategic move that allows Piramal to integrate Yapan Bio's advanced large molecule capabilities into its existing service offerings, thereby expanding its portfolio in the biologics sector.

This acquisition is particularly significant as it aligns with Piramal Pharma's long-term strategy to strengthen its position in the biologics market, which has seen increasing demand due to the growing need for complex therapies. By incorporating Yapan Bio's expertise, Piramal Pharma can offer a more comprehensive range of services, including the development and scaling of complex biologic therapies. Additionally, Yapan Bio’s operations will continue under the umbrella of Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), the CDMO arm of Piramal, which emphasizes the strategic importance of this acquisition in enhancing PPS's service capabilities.

The deal also bolsters the ADCelerate™ platform, Piramal’s fixed-price, integrated solution for antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) development. The integration of Yapan Bio's specialized services is expected to streamline the ADC development process, enabling faster transition from research and development to good manufacturing practice (GMP) compliance, thus enhancing the overall efficiency of bringing life-saving therapies to market.

In the broader context, this transaction reflects the ongoing consolidation trend within the pharmaceutical sector, particularly in the biologics space. As companies seek to enhance their capabilities and respond to the rising global demand for complex biologics, strategic acquisitions such as this one are likely to become more prevalent. The integration of specialized CDMO services is expected to play a crucial role in enabling pharmaceutical companies to innovate and deliver advanced therapies efficiently, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
